The replication of the LIFE ZEUS solution to other agri-food manufacturers is based on the production of a technical and environmental assessment methodology and on training modules for professional project leaders.
The methodology will be developed by INSA Toulouse, which specialises in Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and membrane filtration.
It will be based on real industrial cases to study the adaptability of the ZEUS solution. It will be carried out in 3 stages:
- Pre-analysis of the environmental benefits of LIFE ZEUS in the industrial context of the case under evaluation,
- Study of transferability with the LIFE ZEUS database,
- Additional tests: identification of pre-treatment operations, membranes, efficiency, sizing. The database is then updated and transferability assessed.
Building the LIFE ZEUS database
The creation of a LIFE ZEUS database makes it possible to assess transferability a priori. It is based on the MONIN data (Bourges sites + one other site and 4 additional cases chosen from among the companies that have confirmed their interest in the LIFE ZEUS solution.
This database will establish correlations between the composition of the water (sugars and salts) and the technological modules of the LIFE ZEUS solution (pre-treatment, membrane, yield, energy consumption, reagents, etc.).The data relates to the life cycle analysis enabling a preliminary assessment of the environmental relevance, and to the technical feasibility obtained on the representative effluents supplied by the 4 industrial companies.
Development of the methodological tool for replicability
Based on the LIFE ZEUS database, a matrix will be created containing the context parameters, the effluent parameters, the operation of the process and the environmental impacts. This tool will enable the transferability of the LIFE ZEUS technology to be assessed a priori according to technical and environmental criteria.
A partnership between INSA and CHEMDOC will be set up after LIFE for cases requiring further testing (updating of the database). Economic criteria will be included in connection with action B6.
Enriched book
OiEau will propose an enhanced, interactive and educational book, with the techniques to be favoured, the instrumentation needed, the skills required and the methodology developed to support the transferability of the LIFE ZEUS solution to other agri-food industrialists.
Using a variety of media (video, audio, animations), numerous illustrations and interviews with key players, this free tool, available to all industrialists interested in the ZEUS solution, will explain how to qualify the opportunities, risks and operational phases of a zero liquid discharge project and/or the reuse of treated wastewater in industry.
It will be used in OiEau and INSA training courses and will be a tool offered to CHEMDOC customers.
