A life cycle assessment (LCA) of the demonstrator will be carried out during the project, taking into account all the stages in its life cycle: extraction of the energy and non-energy raw materials needed to manufacture the product, use of the system, collection and disposal to end-of-life channels. LCA is a standardised methodology (ISO 14040 to 14043) recognised for assessing the environmental impact of technological solutions and, in particular, for making comparisons between processes.
This LCA will compare the ZEUS process with the current process. This analysis will take into account the effects of the ZEUS process on the plant's supply of drinking water and salt, as well as the treatment of residual water.
LCA methods will then be used to translate the inventory into environmental impact. 18 "Midpoints" indicators from the ReCiPe method will assess the overall effects of the substances emitted or consumed.
