Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)
A Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of the demonstrator will be carried out over the course of the project, taking into account every stage of its life cycle: extraction of raw materials, use of the system, collection, and disposal through end-of-life channels.
LCA is a standardized methodology (ISO 14040 to 14043) recognized for assessing the environmental impacts of technological solutions and comparing different pathways.
Scope of the ZEUS LCA
This LCA will compare the ZEUS pathway to the current pathway and takes into account:
| The plant's supply of drinking water and salt |
| The treatment of wastewater and its energy recovery |
| The production of renewable energy (biogas) from organic compounds |
| CO2 emissions avoided across the entire life cycle |
Expected results
LCA methods will make it possible to translate the inventory into environmental impact, in order to scientifically demonstrate the environmental superiority of the ZEUS process compared with conventional pathways.
