The ZEUS concept
The ZEUS concept is based on an innovative approach to industrial water management, combining stream separation, advanced recycling, and by-product recovery to achieve zero liquid discharge (ZLD).

The originality of the ZEUS approach lies in its dual objective of reducing water consumption and enabling the reuse of effluents after treatment. It aims to demonstrate the efficiency of the advanced recycling process and the separation of streams (water/salts/nutrients) in order to regenerate and reuse them in proportions greater than 75%. The innovation lies in combining these techniques under real operating conditions.
The 3 recovered streams
|
High-quality water
Compliant with food contact standards: reused directly in the industrial process
|
Mineral salts
Recovered for softener resin regeneration: 38 t/year recycled
|
Organic compounds
Concentrated and recovered for the production of renewable biogas
|
The two industrial prototypes
R-Oasys® : Treatment of organic streams via low-pressure nanofiltration and reverse osmosis. Exceptional energy performance thanks to the low pressures and permeability of the silicon carbide membranes.
ReGeCycle® : Specific treatment of saline streams from softeners. In-situ recycling of 38 t of salt per year, as a substitute for virgin salt.

Innovative technologies
The project will demonstrate innovative technologies by deploying materials and membrane techniques in a novel configuration, for the direct treatment of saline streams and other organic loads. The innovative nature stems from the specific implementation of the technology and its execution under real conditions at industrial scale.
LIFE ZEUS will highlight the performance and reliability of the R-Oasys® and ReGeCycle® processes, backed by an equipment financing facilitation solution to make it easier to disseminate these solutions, particularly among SMEs.
A flexible and adaptable solution
LIFE ZEUS is positioned as a flexible solution, whose sizing and technical capabilities will allow it to adapt to a wide range of scenarios:
Medium-term impact
In the medium term (4 to 5 years after the project), the combined effect of the impact of climate change on resource availability, the foreseeable tightening of regulations, and the removal of regulatory barriers to the reuse of treated wastewater in the food and beverage industry, will lead to a multiplication of replication projects.
Comprehensive packages will be developed with commercial partners under a global contract including equipment, consumables and service, to make the technology more accessible to companies of all sizes.
