PASSING ON THE SKILLS TO OPERATE AND REPLICATE
Implementing a water reuse solution does not rely solely on the equipment.
It also requires skills to operate the installations, control water quality, interpret monitoring results and react in the event of drift.
Team training was therefore a full component of the LIFE ZEUS project, both to support the operation of the demonstrator and to facilitate the transfer of knowledge to other water and agri-food industry professionals.
ON-SITE TRAINING AND SKILLS DEVELOPMENT
The commissioning of the LIFE ZEUS demonstrator was accompanied by training and skills transfer actions for the teams involved in its operation.
These actions covered the main areas required for secure and autonomous operation:
• laboratory management and QHSE best practices;
• water quality monitoring;
• microbiological and physico-chemical analyses;
• metrology and use of measuring equipment;
• operation and maintenance of sensors;
• operation of membrane processes;
• water disinfection;
• control and monitoring of the installation.
The aim was to enable the teams to understand how the demonstrator works, interpret the monitoring results, identify drift and apply the appropriate procedures in the event of non-compliance.
Beyond the equipment, LIFE ZEUS has thus helped develop the skills needed for the day-to-day operation of a water reuse installation in an industrial setting.
FROM TRAINING TO TEAM AUTONOMY
One of the lessons from LIFE ZEUS is that the performance of a REUSE installation also depends on its ownership by the teams who operate it.
Training, maintenance, analytical monitoring and an understanding of critical points must therefore be built in from the start of the project.
Operators' upskilling directly contributes to the reliability of the treatments and the long-term sustainability of the reuse loops.
SHARING THE LESSONS WITH PROFESSIONALS
LIFE ZEUS was also designed as a project for capitalising on and transferring knowledge.
The resources produced as part of the project: lessons learned, methods, teaching materials and the Enhanced E-book, can be used to raise awareness among and train professionals on:
• Designing a water reuse approach;
• Diagnosis and characterisation of streams;
• Treatment technologies;
• Monitoring and quality control;
• Health and regulatory conditions;
• Operation and maintenance of installations;
• Conditions for transferability to other industrial sites.
These lessons feed into the training and dissemination activities carried out in particular by the International Office for Water and INSA Toulouse.
